13 New XP’s to Expand Sage’s Fast Action Rod Series

Bainbridge Island, Washington – Last year’s introduction of the XP Series of fly rods proved to be an unprecedented success. This fast action, lightweight rod series thrilled anglers with its exceptional feel and control at all casting distances. In response to angler demand, Sage is excited to introduce 13 new rods to the XP series.

The 286 XP and the 380 XP are two-piece rods designed for anglers wanting to fish small rods in a variety of conditions. These rods are perfect for anglers that traditionally use a 4 or 5 weight rod but are looking for a new challenge while still using a fast action fly rod. The 990 XP and the 1090 XP are two-piece rods for anglers looking to chase larger species of fish. These rods are perfect for steelhead, salmon and many smaller saltwater species including striped bass.

In 4 piece rods the 486-4 XP is an extremely versatile travel rod for small to medium waters. The 4100-4 XP, the 596-4 XP and the 696-4 XP are long rods ideally suited to lake fishing and float tubing. The 6110-4 XP is specifically designed for anglers in the United Kingdom where long rods are beneficial on much of the water. The 990-4 XP, 996-4 XP, 9100-4 XP and the 1090-4 XP are ideal for stripers, other saltwater species and many of the larger fish found in Alaska.

The XP’s are made from Graphite IIIe, an enhanced Graphite III material with many of the advantages of the Graphite IV material used in Sage’s SP series. This advanced composite has the strength characteristics of higher modulus materials combined with the performance necessary for fast action rods.

To save additional weight on the rods, the entire XP series uses lightwire guides rather than traditional guides. The two through six weights have a nickel silver reelseat with an Imbuya wood insert. The 690-4, the 696-4 and the 6110-4 will be offered with either a nickel silver reelseat or a black anodized aluminum reelseat. The nine and ten weights are equipped with the black anodized aluminum reelseat.

Featuring a moss green blank with gold trim wraps, the entire XP package is exquisitely finished and packaged in a green rod bag within a Sage colored textured aluminum rod tube. The price on the new XP’s will range from $495 for the 2 weight 8’6" to $585 for the ten weight 9’0" 4 piece rod.
