You might choose to troll for big king salmon one day
– hey, there’s
nothing shabby about nailing a 35-pounder and bringing a
few filets home – or get into one of the boats and spot
killer whales as you travel to Bond Sound for a day of
magnificent north coastal sea-run cutthroats up to
18-inches or so.
Fish a muddler or a variety of shrimp patterns on a 5-
or 6-weight for cutts. The black or kelp bass really are a
great gamer. They hit like a big char or brookie and rip
line off your reel heading back into the safety of the
kelp bed home. Fish them on low tide using a Teeny T-300
or even a full sinking line on your 8-weight. Abel
Anchovy, Clousers and similar patterns are deadly.
The black bass weigh from around 3-8 pounds and 30 or
40 fish afternoons are not uncommon. It’s a great fish
to introduce a spouse or significant other to the joys of
saltwater fly-rodding.
If you’re looking for a fly-fishing experience that
combines sumptuous resort living, fine dining, terrific
sight-seeing including whales at your doorstep, consider
Farewell Harbor Resort in beautiful British Columbia.
